Regional Library in Prešov by DOXA & Bistan architects

Located in Prešov, this renovation of three protected town-houses reimagines the library’s interior with a refined architectural approach. Designed by DOXA & bistan architekti (Matúš Bišťan, Maroš Mitro, Ondrej Jurčo, Tomáš Boroš, Jakub Števanka, Pavel Bakajsa), the design introduces a “gradient” shelving concept that thickens downward and opens upward, turning book-storage into delicate, curtain-like structures. On the upper floors long rows of shelving in varying scales aid wayfinding and preserve the spatial grandeur of the historic halls. The project exemplifies how a heritage interior can be simultaneously functional, generous and poetic.
