House in Lanškroun by Martin Neruda Architektura

Architect Martin Neruda crafted a novel atrium ground-floor residence in Lanškroun, Czechia, replacing a demolished two-story terraced house. The client’s desire for a close connection to the garden led to a design featuring cascading interior and outdoor spaces following the gentle slope of the south-facing plot. Translucent polycarbonate volumes of the garage and garden storage create a buffer from the street, leading into the atrium beneath concrete roof overhangs. The house revolves around this central garden, serving as the focal point for interior spaces. The primary living area, nestled between the atrium and the south garden, functions as the heart of the home, offering a versatile space that can open up to both the north and south gardens in summer. The stepped reinforced concrete ceiling slabs with generous overhangs protect against the elements while providing comfortable spaces at the house and garden periphery.
