Grounds Cafe by KOGAA

GROUNDS, situated in Prague’s burgeoning Karlín district, serves as a local coffee hub within a lively office and residential setting. Nestled in an inner yard, the cafe integrates a hands-on, cost-effective construction approach, with design-by-building involving the coffee community. A translucent duplex structure maximizes natural light for various functions, housing in-house coffee production, testing, workshops, and competitions. The cafeteria and coffee sales occupy the front side, while a tangerine-colored staircase leads to the upper working space enveloped by an organically shaped corrugated plastic wall with integrated greenery. The interior incorporates reclaimed construction site waste, industrial lamps, and on-site crafted elements, emphasizing sustainability. Conceived by Rusty Nails coffee producer Rene Kralovič, GROUNDS aims to expand the roastery concept publicly, fostering community and education for baristas and coffee enthusiasts.
